Fall 2022 CERS Update for LEA Coordinators

Dear LEA CAASPP Coordinator or LEA ELPAC Coordinator:
As the 2022–23 school years begins, we would like to remind you the California Educator Reporting System (CERS) is a free and powerful tool available to all California LEAs from the CDE. This email is intended to provide you with information that can be used to support educators who want to use CERS this school year.
Allowing Access to CERS Assessment Results
CERS offers LEA staff the earliest access to the latest assessment data, as well as historical assessment data. We encourage you to grant teachers access to CERS by assigning them an appropriate role in the Test Operations Management System (TOMS) and uploading student groups for teachers into CERS.
When preparing teachers for the use of CERS, consider using the CERS Sandbox as a training tool. The CERS Sandbox is a publicly available website that can be used to get familiar with the features and functions of CERS in a non-secure training environment.
If you have any questions about creating TOMS accounts for teachers in your LEA to provide access to CERS, you can register for the Introduction to CERS training listed below or contact your LEA's designated Success Agent. Designated LEA Success Agents can be located on the California Outreach web page.
Time-Saving Interim Assessment Results Features
In addition to summative assessment results, CERS provides administrators and educators the data needed to dig deeper into results from the Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments. CERS features for interim assessments include:
- Options for viewing results by student, item, or item details, including the ability to see the student's written responses
- Item rubrics and exemplars, as well as information about the item claim, target, depth of knowledge, difficulty, and common core state standard
- A key/distractor analysis feature which allows users to evaluate whether there may have been common areas of misunderstanding among students who chose incorrect answers, called "distractors," in selected-response interim assessment items
- Access to groups of instructional resources (lesson plans) directly related to Interim Assessment Blocks
2022–23 Introduction to CERS Trainings
Registration is still open for the 2022–23 Introduction to CERS training sessions. The following two sessions are available:
- Introduction to CERS for Coordinators and Administrators:
- October 26, 2022, 9 a.m. to noon
- Introduction to CERS For Teachers:
- October 13, 2022, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
- November 1, 2022, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
