ELPAC email update, June 28, 2023.

Dear LEA CAASPP Coordinator or LEA ELPAC Coordinator:

As you prepare for the 2023–24 test administration year for the CAASPP and ELPAC assessments, please take note of the following dates:

July 5, 2023

• The 2023–24 Initial ELPAC and Initial Alternate ELPAC administration year begins.
  • The 2023–24 LEA ELPAC Coordinator Checklist has been updated for the current administration.
• The secure Directions for Administration (DFAs) will be available in the Test Operations Management System (TOMS) .
• Picture cards for the Initial Alternate ELPAC will be available in TOMS.
• The nonsecure Preparing for Administration (PFA) documents for the Initial ELPAC and Initial Alternate ELPAC will be available for each assessment on the Moodle Training Site and the Manuals and Instructions web page on the ELPAC website.
• LEA ELPAC coordinators can upload site coordinators and other site-level users in TOMS for the 2023–24 test administration.
• The 2023–24 LEA CAASPP Coordinator Checklist has been updated and is available for the current administration.
• Prior to this year, only superintendents could add and remove secondary LEA coordinators. Primary LEA CAASPP and ELPAC coordinators can now do so, beginning this year.

July 17, 2023

• 2023–24 CAA for Science Form assignments will be available on the California Alternate Assessments webpage.
• 2023–24 CAA for Science PFA will be available on the California Alternate Assessments webpage.

August 1, 2023

• The 2023–24 CAASPP administration year begins.
  • The 2023–24 Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments will be available.
  • The California Alternate Assessment (CAA) for Science Administration Planning Guides will be available on the CAA for Science Administration Planning Guides web page.
• LEA CAASPP coordinators can upload site coordinators and other site-level users in TOMS for the 2023–24 test administration.

September 19, 2023

• CAASPP
  • The CAA for Science and its embedded performance tasks will be available in the secure test delivery system (TDS).
    • Test Examiners intending to administer the CAA for Science should complete the tutorial on the Moodle Training Site prior to administration.
• CAA for Science DFAs will be available in TOMS.
• CAA for Science PFAs will be available on the CAAs web page and in TOMS.
• The California Spanish Assessment (CSA) practice and training tests will be updated.

January 9, 2024

• CAASPP
  • The following assessments will be available in the secure TDS:
  • Smarter Balanced Assessments for English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics
  • CAST
  • CAAs for ELA and mathematics
  • CSA
    • Please note that for the 2023–24 test administration, the CSA will include constructed-response items for speaking and a full-write item for writing for grade-level and grade-band tests. This year, these items will not count toward the student's score.
  • The secure DFAs for the CAAs for ELA and mathematics will be available in TOMS. The PFAs will be available on the CAAs web page and on the Moodle Training Site .
  • Students in an LEA will have access to the summative CAASPP within the LEA's selected testing window, determined by the LEA CAASPP coordinator, after 66 percent of the instructional year for the LEA has passed.
    • Please note the CAA for Science is excluded from this requirement. The CAA for Science becomes available for administration on September 19, 2023.
• ELPAC
  • The secure DFAs for the Summative ELPAC and Summative Alternate ELPAC will be available in TOMS in January. The PFAs will be available on the Moodle Training Site and the Manuals and Instructions web page on the ELPAC website.

February 1, 2024

• The Summative ELPAC and Summative Alternate ELPAC will be available in the secure TDS from February 1 through May 31, 2024.

Release date information regarding the 2023–24 CAST and ELPAC Interim assessments will be provided in August.

Please notify all site coordinators within the LEA of upcoming assessment component releases and system downtimes. System downtime dates are now available on the CAASPP Planned System Downtime web page and the ELPAC Planned System Downtime web page.
