CAASPP and ELPAC: New Opportunities in Assessment Development
ELPAC email update, May 25, 2023.
Dear California Educator:
New opportunities to be involved in the development of California assessment programs have been posted for the 2023–24 school year. These events offer the opportunity to learn more about these assessment programs and be an integral part of assessment development through writing and reviewing items, and reviewing item data. Meetings are held remotely via Zoom and meeting lengths typically vary from eight to twenty-four hours. Some meetings include independent review work. New opportunities are available for the following:
- California Science Test (CAST)
- California Alternate Assessments (CAAs) for ELA, mathematics, and science
- California Spanish Assessment (CSA)
- English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC)
- Alternate ELPAC
Local educational agencies will be reimbursed for the cost of substitute teachers. Educators will be offered a stipend if the meeting falls during a summer month, after-school hours, or noncontract days.
Opportunities for the CAST, CAAs, and CSA, have been posted on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) Opportunities to Get Involved web page.
Opportunities for the ELPAC and Alternate ELPAC have been posted on the ELPAC and Alternate ELPAC Opportunities to Get Involved web page.
There are also new recruitment questions required to apply for meetings in several programs. Applicants who already have an Educator Opportunities Portal account should navigate directly to the Educator Opportunities Portal to view the new opportunities, update the profile information, and answer the new required questions.
Educators who do not have an Educator Opportunities Portal account will need to create an account in the Educator Opportunities Database. You may request an account on the Educator Opportunities Portal Account Creation Form
page. The CAASPP and ELPAC Project Teams will be happy to provide guidance through this process.
Those seeking a guide through the application process or who have questions about how to get involved in these educator opportunities should contact the CAASPP and ELPAC Project Teams by phone at 916-228-2682 or by email at edopportunities@scoe.net.
Sincerely,
CAASPP and ELPAC Project Teams
